Stop-motion animation is one of those wonderful magic tricks of the medium that I never get tired of seeing, but how do you take a stop-motion creature away from a world that consists of models and miniatures, and blend it with a world that is real? That question was at the heart of the work done by Ray Harryhausen, one of cinema’s most beloved craftsmen, and this video investigates a number of the ways he worked over his long career to combine the two mediums together and to execute such wonderous shots.
