I’d happily argue that THE SOCIAL NETWORK is one of the greatest movies, if not just the greatest movie, of the 2010s, and like my video about INCEPTION, I wanted to do something special for its tenth anniversary and about my own personal relationship with the movie. The script for this came together pretty quickly, but the whole time I was writing I felt as though there were something missing. For the video to be worthy of the movie it covered, there would have to be something dynamic about the way it was framed and presented. On a whim, I decided to revamp the same vertical format I’d used for my video about Saul Bass’ Movie Posters, in order to emulate the layout of a Facebook feed, so the actual video itself would play out in dozens of Facebook posts, scrolling on and on and on. Admittedly, it was a weird experiment, but I think it worked out well in the end - it was a challenging video to design, but I learned a lot of valuable lessons from it.
